About PH Canada

Passive House Canada started in 2013 as the Canadian Passive House Institute West (CanPHI West) and took the national name Passive House Canada / Maison Passive Canada in 2016. The building community asked for one national organization instead of regional groups.

It is a national non-profit professional association. The head office is in Victoria, BC, with instructors, volunteers, and members across the country.

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) names Passive House Canada an International Centre of Excellence for high-performance building.

Passive House is a whole-building method built around airtight construction, continuous insulation, high-performance windows, and heat-recovery ventilation. For BC multiplex builders, the same measures that hit the Passive House standard also reach the top tiers of the BC Energy Step Code and the energy-efficiency criteria CMHC uses for MLI Select.
