Laneway & Custom Home Builder, Powell Contracting

Laneway and custom homes on the North Shore, designed and built by one team.

Ed Powell started the firm in 2014. The crew handles design, carpentry, HVAC, and plumbing in-house, so there is no architect-to-contractor handoff.

Meet Powell Contracting

Powell Contracting is a North Vancouver design-build firm that Ed Powell started in December 2014. It builds laneway homes, new custom homes, and whole-house renovations, mostly on the North Shore and across the Lower Mainland.

The crew keeps design, carpentry, HVAC, and plumbing in-house. A client works with one project manager from the first site visit through the final walkthrough, instead of coordinating a separate architect and contractor.

The firm has been BBB-accredited since 2017 and holds an A+ rating. It carries general liability insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage, and backs new builds with a 10-year warranty and renovations with a 2-year warranty.

On its own site, Powell puts most North Shore laneway homes in the $250,000 to $400,000 range and the build timeline at roughly 6 to 12 months, depending on design and permitting. The team works through Vancouver and North Shore laneway and coach-house bylaws as part of the permit process.

Why work with Powell

01

One team from design to finish

Design, carpentry, HVAC, and plumbing are done in-house under one project manager. For a multiplex or laneway project, that removes the gap where a separate architect and contractor blame each other for delays.

02

Knows North Shore laneway rules

The firm builds laneway and coach houses in North Vancouver and works through the local bylaws and permit process as part of the job. That experience carries over to small-scale multiplex and infill work on the same lots.

03

Warranty and coverage in writing

New builds come with a 10-year warranty, renovations with 2 years. The firm carries general liability insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage, and has held BBB accreditation since 2017.
