Powell Contracting is a North Vancouver design-build firm that Ed Powell started in December 2014. It builds laneway homes, new custom homes, and whole-house renovations, mostly on the North Shore and across the Lower Mainland.
The crew keeps design, carpentry, HVAC, and plumbing in-house. A client works with one project manager from the first site visit through the final walkthrough, instead of coordinating a separate architect and contractor.
The firm has been BBB-accredited since 2017 and holds an A+ rating. It carries general liability insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage, and backs new builds with a 10-year warranty and renovations with a 2-year warranty.
On its own site, Powell puts most North Shore laneway homes in the $250,000 to $400,000 range and the build timeline at roughly 6 to 12 months, depending on design and permitting. The team works through Vancouver and North Shore laneway and coach-house bylaws as part of the permit process.
