Meet Binnie

Robert F. Binnie, P.Eng., started the firm in 1965 as a construction company and converted it to a civil and municipal consulting practice in 1969. The early work served land developers and municipalities from West Vancouver to Burnaby. Land surveying was added in 1972.

In 1986 Rob Campbell, P.Eng., and Darwin Lamont, AScT, took majority ownership when Bob Binnie retired. The firm grew from 8 staff in the mid-1980s to 100 by 2008, when it was named one of BC's fastest-growing companies. Richard Bush became President and CEO in 2021.

Binnie is now an employee-owned firm of more than 300 people, with its head office in Burnaby and offices in Squamish, Langley, Kamloops, Prince George, and Calgary. Service lines cover land development and site servicing, transportation, water resources and stormwater, land surveying and geomatics, landscape architecture, and construction services.

For a multiplex project, the relevant Binnie work is the civil side: site servicing design (water, sanitary, storm connections), stormwater management to meet municipal requirements, grading, and the legal and topographic surveys a development permit needs. The firm is EGBC Organizational Quality Management certified and holds a WorkSafeBC Certificate of Recognition.

Why work with Binnie

01

Civil and survey under one firm

Binnie has run civil engineering and land surveying together since 1972. A multiplex site needs both the servicing design and the legal/topographic survey, so keeping them with one firm cuts coordination between separate consultants.

02

Stormwater and site servicing

Municipal development permits in Metro Vancouver require stormwater management and servicing connections that meet city standards. Stormwater management and land development site servicing are listed Binnie service lines.

03

Quality-certified at the org level

Binnie holds EGBC Organizational Quality Management certification and a WorkSafeBC Certificate of Recognition. For a sign-and-seal civil scope, that is a documented internal review and safety system rather than a sole practitioner working alone.
