Meet Diamond Head Consulting
Diamond Head Consulting Ltd. was incorporated in 2001 and works out of 3559 Commercial Street in Vancouver. The firm is run by directors Mike Coulthard and Trevor Cox. Over the years it has grown into a multi-disciplinary group covering arboriculture, urban forestry, biology, environmental planning, wildfire management, and GIS.
For a multiplex project, the part that matters is arboriculture. Diamond Head writes tree surveys, arborist reports, tree protection plans, tree risk assessments, windfirm boundary assessments, and tree replacement plans. These are the documents a City of Vancouver development permit requires when there are trees on or near the lot.
The arboriculture team includes ISA Certified Arborists, professional foresters, biologists, danger and wildlife tree assessors, and GIS specialists. Principals named on the team page include Max Rathburn (Senior Arborist), Amelia Needoba (Senior Urban Forester), and Fiona Steele (Senior Biologist).
The firm has served as project arborist on larger jobs in the region, including the Evergreen rapid transit line, the Stanley Park Causeway pathway widening, and redevelopment work on the UBC campus. Clients have included municipalities, government agencies, First Nations, and private developers and landowners.
Credentials
Why work with Diamond Head
01
They cover the full tree report list
A Vancouver multiplex permit can call for a tree survey, an arborist report, a tree protection plan, and a replacement plan. Diamond Head lists all of these as standard services, so one firm handles the whole package instead of stitching it together from several.
02
TRAQ-qualified risk assessment
When a tree near the build is in question, the team includes ISA Certified Tree Risk Assessors. That lets them sign off on whether a tree stays or goes with a recognized methodology behind it.
03
More than one discipline under one roof
The firm also has biologists, foresters, and GIS staff. If a lot turns out to have a watercourse, a sensitive ecosystem, or a wildfire interface concern alongside the trees, the same office can take it on.
